Peril & Promise

The Challenge of Climate Change

Peril and Promise: The Challenge of Climate Change is a multiplatform public media initiative from The WNET Group in New York, reporting on the human impact of climate change. The initiative’s multimedia content is designed to provide context and scientifically sound journalism as well as innovative solutions around climate change to audiences across all public media platforms.

As Producer for Peril & Promise, I led the production process - from contract to delivery - for two digital series on the devastating impacts of climate change and the emerging leaders who are fighting for change. My role also involved research and writing for the website, as well as developing a number of partnerships that extended the work into communities, and brought more expert voices on climate change into our work. Explore several of the Peril & Promise productions that I was a Producer for below.

Fighting fossil fuels

Facing Down the Fossils is a multi-part digital series about people who are suffering from generational consequences of pollution and economic damage caused by the fossil fuel industry. They’re now facing the prospect of even more fossil fuel projects in the United States that may impact their lives and health. In response, they are fighting injustice and leading efforts to advance clean energy production.

On a mission for the planet

The Ants & the Grasshopper: The Series, is a multi-part digital series that follows Anita Chitaya, a farmer, activist, and community leader from Malawi, as she embarks on a journey to the U.S. to raise awareness about climate change.

In her country, she and her people are suffering devastating hardships from climate change: drought, crop failure, food shortage, and water scarcity.

Climate change is real and urgent. Are Americans willing to listen to the concerns of those most affected?

Exploring ocean solutions

Peril & Promise partnered with Oceana, a nonprofit ocean conservation organization, to co-create a series of multimedia essays highlighting the importance of protecting ocean health and limiting offshore drilling as ways to prevent the most severe impacts of the climate crisis.

Ocean Solutions are Climate Solutions

Dr. Kathryn Matthews, Chief Scientist at Oceana, emphasized the report’s key findings:

“If we stop the expansion of offshore oil drilling, this will help keep the planet from warming to catastrophic levels.”

How Single Use Plastics are Hurting our Oceans and Warming Our Planet

An estimated 33 billion pounds of plastic enter the marine environment every year. That’s two-garbage truck’s worth of plastic that enters the ocean every minute, according to Oceana

Global impact

We partnered with the Human Impacts Institute to share clips of our Peril & Promise digital series that were included in a montage that was exhibited at COP 28 in Dubai.
